What is PICH?

The Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH) project focuses on chronic diseases including; heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and chronic lower respiratory disease the leading causes of death and disability in the 17-counties.

To address risk factors for these diseases, two multi-sector coalitions made up of representatives from health departments with the Northeastern NC Partnership for Public Health (NENCPPH), faith-based institutions, local government entities, community colleges, health and human service agencies, and community organizations will implement strategies to reduce secondhand smoke exposure and improve nutrition.

We have some GREAT news to share! On February 15, 2023, the Gates County Board of Commissioners voted to address the need for 100% tobacco free policies. Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in North Carolina and continues to be a challenge in Gates County. According to the 2021 Community Health Assessment Data for Gates County, the top 3 leading causes of Death in Gates County are heart disease, cancer and cerebrovascular disease. We couldn't be happier to share that the Gates County Board of Commissioners shared our concern for this and voted to strengthen their local government policies to now include 100% Tobacco Free Government Buildings, Vehicles, Grounds, Parks and Recreation areas. ...
